One major flaw in the design is that the bag has no zippers or Velcro to close the inside compartments. Things will definitely fall out inside the book bag without zippers or velcro. You should definitely fix this flaw for your future book bags.

1-year review of the Earth Backpack

I believe long-term use and durability of an item is equally important as the way it was produced for evaluating the sustainability of an item. Well-made items help us reduce how much we use in the long run, and to that end, the Earth Backpack has proven a wonderful product. I am extremely hard on my items, often going through a backpack in a year or two of school and travel. Either the flimsy fabric will tear in a way I can't repair, or some of the hardware will break. But, even after my usual hard use for this past year, the backpack has not ripped, deformed, etc, and is structurally the exact same as the day I bought it. The thick canvas is a boon to this, as are the metal clasps -- plastic ones often break, and are designed to be difficult or impossible to replace. Additionally, the zipper is one of the smoothest I've ever used, on any item. In the year I've had it, the zipper has not gotten caught once. The level of care and thought that went into designing the bag is truly outstanding, and shows in its long-term longevity.
My only gripe is that the pretty Lavender color has faded significantly into a rather unsightly yellow-grey, namely on the top and straps. I initially thought it was dirt, but a careful wash showed that it was just the dye fading. It's not a huge blow to the functionality of the backpack, but it is a bummer, especially since the most faded areas are the ones I touch (and look at) the most. I suspect this is partially because Lavender is the lightest color Terra Thread offers, so I would recommend getting a darker colored bag if you're worried about this.
Overall, though, this is a great bag, and I'm very happy with my purchase. If you're hard on your bags, or just don't want to hassle with replacing one halfway through college, I highly recommend it.

New favorite backpack

The shipping and processing was super quick and impressive! In total it took about 3 days. For anyone wondering the size is very similar to a Jansport backpack.

The backpack was originally going to be used for my next college semester but since it came early, I used it for my last day. I love the laptop pocket. I really like how it keeps my notebooks out of the way of my laptop. I don’t have to worry about the notebook covers ruining my laptop case. The backpack is very spacious. I could definitely fit in 3-4 more notebooks in the large pocket. The front pocket I use to keep my chargers/pencil case.

Overall the backpack seems to be well made and sturdy. The thicker straps don’t dig into your shoulders. The metal hardware are strong and seem like they will hold up. I have not gotten the zipper stuck yet. Honestly I think that will won’t be an issue with how well made this is.

Customer Service is great

My backpack strap broke shortly after it arrive (~20ish days) and despite this being after the return period, I emailed them and they sent me a replacement that same day! The backpack arrived within 2 days and I'm excited to try again, and I'll try to be more careful with the stress on the straps. Still a great backpack. Roomy, simple, and not bulky. Great color.
